What Are Prepositions of Time?

  • What They Are: Prepositions of time are little words that tell us when stuff happens.
  • Common Ones: The big three are at, in, and on.

Using Prepositions of Time:

  • At: This one's for specific times like at 5 PM, at midnight, or at lunchtime.
  • In: Use this for months, years, and longer times. Like in July, in 2023, or in the morning.
  • On: This is for days and dates. Say on Monday, on Christmas Day, or on October 21st.

 

Role in Conversation and Writing

  • Planning Stuff: Like The meeting is at 3 PM on Friday.
  • History Stuff: The telephone was invented in the 19th century.
  • Everyday Stuff: I go to the gym in the evening.

 

Common Mistakes

  • Confusing 'In' and 'On' for Days and Dates:
    • 🚫 Wrong: I will see you in Monday.
    • ✅ Right: I will see you on Monday.
  • Misusing 'At' for Longer Periods:
    • 🚫 Wrong: She studied at the 1990s.
    • ✅ Right: She studied in the 1990s.
