Ongoing Actions
Introduction
Ongoing actions refer to activities that are currently happening or were happening around a certain time. In English, these actions are typically expressed using the present continuous tense (also known as the present progressive tense). This tense gives a sense of immediacy and progression to the actions being described.
Forming the Present Continuous Tense:
- Structure: Subject + to be (am/is/are) + verb-ing.
- Example: I am reading a book.
Using Present Continuous for Ongoing Actions:
- Actions Happening Now: She is typing an email.
- Temporary Actions: He is staying with a friend this week.
- Planned Future Events: We are meeting them tomorrow.
- Actions in Progress (at a Specific Time): At 9 AM, I was driving to work.
